We recently launched Dovetail (November 2024) and a number of our designers and product managers have expressed an interest in dark mode. They normally work in dark mode and to switch to Dovetail which is light they find it quite jarring.

I use an OLED monitor and bright (white) backgrounds over extended periods of time can cause burn-in and also shortens the lifespan of the monitor itself. I'm looking at Dovetail for significant portions of the day and grow concerned with the effects it is having on my equipment.

Was surprised to find this feature missing, it seems there was partial dark mode support launched in a very old launch post: https://dovetail.com/blog/dovetail-updated/

Research
As a glasses wearer I hate how dovetail reflects the white screen in my lenses when I’m on a user research call - it obscures my eyes for the participant and makes it feel less personal. Other products I've used for research note taking have had a dark mode which reduces the glare.
Additionally it's just a jarring experience - all my other products I have set to dark mode to reduce eye strain, I'm quite surprised that Dovetail is lagging behind with this.

Notably, when I use my current workaround to darken websites (the Chrome extension DarkReader), this causes Dovetail webpages to become unresponsive. Disabling the extension fixes the issue, but I'm forced to use the default light mode on Dovetail which is straining on the eyes. I hope you consider this an accessibility issue worth addressing.
